Many could argue that 2024 was the best Grand National Super Series Presented By ECC season yet. From first time winners to exhilarating racing throughout the year, you never knew what to expect heading into any given race. And the same could be said for our Kevin Kromer Championship Night at gorgeous Dominion Raceway!

Rough patches hit early during practice as both Edlin Motorsports and K2 Motorsports had problems. After getting her car repaired from Carteret County, Lauren Butler looked to just make it through Dominion unscathed. Unfortunately, a timing chain broke on her machine. With hardly any time to spare, the team switched over to a car owned by Marc Jones, just barely getting everything in place in time for the twin 50 lap main events. On the other hand, 3 time GNSS winner Jake Christman ran into mechanical gremlins as well. Kyle and Aaron Kromer, both sons of Kevin, were scheduled to race their father’s second # 77. But with Christman out of a ride, the team got to work and handed over their keys to Christman.

The ChaLew Performance, LLC Pole Award came into the hands of Jason Kitzmiller, who’s been racking poles up like they’re candy. But after a redraw, familiar face Larry Berg led the field to green in his GNSS debut.

Once the first 50 lapper went green, it was a race to forget for Berg, who fell off the pace early, eventually causing a caution. Not what the veteran wanted at all. That left the door open for Christman, who had a lightning quick Kitzmiller right behind. Contact would be made and before you knew it, Kitzmiller assumed the lead after the lap 20 compeititon caution. But for Christman, it all went according to plan. Just saving his tires, Christman used the last 10 laps as crunch time, pulling up to Kitzmiller and making the late race pass. With Kevin Kromer smiling down from the sky, Christman pulled Kromer’s # 77 into victory lane, a moment that will go down as one of the most emotional and coolest moments in GNSS history. Just behind in third, AJ Henriksen took home the first of two Howe Racing Enterprises Hard Charger Awards.

In search for his first career win, Larry Wilcox was the lucky recipient of the invert for race 2. To his outside was Chase Pollard, filling in for the injured Donnie Doster. Pollard has a storied history in racing, his father being Larry Pollard while his grandfather is the legendary Harry Gant. Pollard used that lineage to his advantage early, assuming the lead in front a very hungry pack of drivers. The GNSS rookie would be put to the test, having to hold off the likes of Henriksen, Christman, Jeremy Mayfield, and Chris Burns, who took over for Bob Schacht in race 2 as Schacht wanted a second opinion on the set up. There was one other driver though who ultimately would prevail in front of all of them, avenging his race 1 loss. Coming home second in points, Jason Kitzmiller ended the 2024 GNSS season on top, dominating the second half of the race. Making a late race charge behind Kitzmiller and notching the second Howe Racing Enterprises Hard Charger Award of the night would be Berg, who’s car kept getting better with each and every lap.

But none of that matters to Jeremy Mayfield, who adds to his already illustrious resume with the 2024 Grand National Super Series Presented By ECC Drivers and Owners Championships!
